criminalized, and ultimately became the center of a nefarious attempt to rewrite the script and accomplishments 
of the school system during her tenure. This is a book that goes beyond theory; it is a book of sound systems and 
actions. The Atlanta Public Schools system had one single purpose, that was to provide Quality Instruction and 
Quality Schools for the Atlanta Community.

It also unpacks the elements of a Blueprint for Urban School Success and demonstrates synergies created, including
my own journey and Common Characteristics of Quality Schools, by linking them together to achieve and sustain
outcomes that cannot be attained by implementing one or a few of the elements in isolation. The APS script for
successful urban schools is replicable and inerasable!

This book’s credibility is illuminated by the Atlanta Public Schools students’ successful improvement on the National
Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP), “The Gold Standard of Test,” and the continued upward trends on the
Georgia State Assessments during the 2000–2012 years.
