The black lambs at the Girls’ Academy of Mounds are working hard at their studies in the classroom when Kelly, the new kid at school, joins the class. Kelly is a white goat from Plains, a town far away from Mounds. Kelly’s long, straight locks and the lambs’ short, curly wool look quite different, so the girls can’t help but compare their appearances to each other. One certain lamb named Layla is confident, and does not compare herself to Kelly.
Wanting her friends and Kelly to understand that their differences do not define them, Layla plans to teach the lambs and Kelly an important lesson about themselves at school this day.
This story deals with nonconformity, self-esteem, and self-acceptance. With the help of Kelly, Layla, and the other lamb girls, children are sure to learn to accept themselves and others just as they are.
