Back Home is a book in which the author, Will Helms, takes a look at what it means to live in a place, and commit to being there. Why do we feel connected to some places so strongly? Will also looks at why he feels so tied to his hometown, even in the face of there being better opportunities elsewhere. The book is split into two parts: Part one focuses on the idea and concept of “location” as it relates to place. Why do specific locations hold good or bad memories so strongly, and how does that affect how we view our place? Part two deals with people and their effect on place. Will takes an in-depth look at some of his strongest memories about the people in his hometown and considers how they might be helping or harming him as he chooses to stay where he grew up. The goal of the book is to show his life and thoughts to others, that we might all start looking at the place we find ourselves a little more closely, consider why we stay there, and what we might be gaining from it.
