Gary Lotner, M.D., a prominent, recently retired physician in the Atlanta area, looks back on his long medical career in a warm and amusing light. Originally conceived as a means of introducing his earlier self to his very young grandchildren, Dr. Lotner’s reflections expanded into a series of vignettes that will be appealing to a much broader readership. Not intended as a medical book per se, instead each short vignette offers a humorous or poignant glimpse of a life in medicine. The episodes also remind us of the trials and tribulations of medical training a generation earlier.
Dr. Lotner trained at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and later at the University of Pennsylvania and at National Jewish Hospital and Respiratory Center in Denver. Board certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy and Clinical Immunology, he practiced at the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic for almost 40 years. Married for 45 years, he and his wife are happy to find themselves surrounded by their five young grandchildren.
